EF getting close to goal

February 22nd, 2010 at 09:51 pm

Up to $1,160. $40 to go to reach my target.

I didn't budget for this...

February 7th, 2010 at 03:28 am

So far this year we've had several items die. Gone is an Ipod (fortunately I won three two years ago), the DVD player, and the GPS died yesterday. Naturally we can't find adaptor for the portable DVD player so we're out of luck. The interior window of the oven shattered a few weeks ago and it was $366.00 to replace it. Bad luck comes in three's and now we're up to four! Yikes. We just have too much stuff! I wonder if this is a sign?

Final entry on 30 in 30 days

January 31st, 2010 at 06:41 pm

Yesterday I tackled the linen closet. Donated 15 items to the local charity place. Total items out: 45 including 4 bags of garbage. Total points: 94. Maybe I'll keep doing this. It's made a difference but there is still a lot to go out. Thanks for following along!

Any ideas on finding a job?

January 25th, 2010 at 04:13 am

I've been off for 14 months. Ten of it has been "fun-employment". I've been looking for a job since October. I've contacted friends and family. Any ideas? I'm willing to do anything. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

More on 30 in 30 days

January 23rd, 2010 at 07:31 pm

Ah, 10 old T-shirts out, two wreaths freecycled, plus craft ribbon to a good cause. Up to 71.5 points and haven't put a dent in it. Another, oh, 800 or 900 points and it might make a difference. Onwards!

30 in 30 days

January 20th, 2010 at 02:21 pm

I'm up to 52 points. Freecycled several items and donated 10 airline travel kits to go to Haiti. Another huge bag of trash out the door. I need to tackle the clothes next. How did I accumulate so much crap? Jeez, being a product of the materialistic 1980's has my house filled with such a lot of useless stuff. I am sure I could clear a good 65 - 70% out of my house and still have things that I don't need in it!

Emergency Fund update

January 15th, 2010 at 11:49 pm

I was able to add to the emergency fund in an effort to meet my goal of $1,200.00. As my side bar indicates I am now at $1,009.01, up from $854.01. Can't wait to have this fully funded so I can tackle the cc debt.

30 items in 30 days

January 15th, 2010 at 01:09 am

Finally reached the goal of 30 items in 30 days. Lots of recycling and freecycling and a little bartering. Regretfully there was too much garbage put out but who needs a handful of broken pieces of Hot Wheels track? I'm up to 31.5 points. It's half way through the month and I hope to hit 60 points by month end.

$5,000 deposited to our bank account - in error

January 9th, 2010 at 08:25 pm

Joy of joys. Our mortgage company deposited $5,000 into our account yesterday. Bonus! But we know it's an error. At some point it will be clawed back. But it sure looks pretty sitting in the account.

Emergency Fund

January 8th, 2010 at 04:29 pm

We received a surprise refund for a dental expense after we appealed it. I added $450 to the emergency fund for a total of $854. Getting close to my goal of $1,200.00

Didn't get THE job

January 4th, 2010 at 07:54 pm

Ah, soul crushing. Didn't get my dream job with the non-profit. But now I know and can move forward. Life is unfolding as it should. But man, am I disappointed!

30 Day Challenge

January 4th, 2010 at 12:31 am

OK, I'm only up to 4 points but it feels great. Out are the two dead plants and I also cleared off the crap on one of the laundry shelves. You know all that extra crap that you find in pockets and all the extra lids and measuring cups? It's in the recycling. Lots more to go...

Gift cards and a question

December 31st, 2009 at 12:58 am

Hello Folks! Just thought I'd mention that if you received a GC recently you might just want to check out the balance. I received a Tim Horton's card and when I went to use it today the balance was zero. Fortunately my husband kept the receipt so we can go back to the store and get it fixed.

Second, can you please give me your feedback about virtual envelopes? Are they just spreadsheets that break out how much is in each bank account? Or do you need special software?

Merry Christmas!

December 24th, 2009 at 11:26 pm

Merry Christmas everyone! May everyone's 2010 be abundant!

Question for non-profit employees

December 17th, 2009 at 01:03 am

Hello Folks

I have an opportunity to work for a non-profit. It's not confirmed yet but I need to ask this question. Here it is... the salaries are about 65% of corporate salaries. The job I will be offered is outstanding and really meets my needs to give back to the community. So is the trade off between income and giving back worth it? I'd appreciate your feedback.

HAD MY SECOND INTERVIEW!

December 10th, 2009 at 07:19 pm

Well, had the second interview today. It was quite long - close to an hour. I enjoy panel interviews and tend to do well in them. I will hear before Christmas. If jobs have a photograph beside them the picture for this opportunity would be of me! What an amazing job. Just fantastic. It confirmed that this sort of community service is exactly what I want to do. Sending it up there!

Advice on tipping

December 2nd, 2009 at 12:59 am

I am one of those people who wins things all the time. On Friday I will be having a hair cut and facial free of charge. What type of tip would you recommend I leave? Thanks in advance for your advice.

It's a tough life for a hand crafter...

November 28th, 2009 at 11:13 pm

I haven't been a vendor in a craft show for at least 10 years. This year I decided to do one Christmas event because I have the time and I really enjoy the shows. WOW, have things changed! My sales didn't even cover my table cost. Only 30 people showed up. And usually other vendors buy my product or we trade. This year the vendors weren't even buying because they were not able to sell anything. Only one vendor covered the cost of their booth. The vendor beside me mentioned that she went to a show two weeks ago to sell and only 6 people showed up. But I still had a great time - so many nice and talented people. So I have 71 home made angels with crystals and healing stones left if anyone wants one!

Second Interview and Employment Ins.

November 24th, 2009 at 07:45 pm

I've been told that am I one of two who will be interviewed a second time for an amazing job that I will love. Still waiting to hear what date it will be. I was also advised that my unemployment benefits have been extended due to the recession and this makes me very happy and relieved!

Job Interview

November 18th, 2009 at 06:54 pm

When I started my blog I mentioned that I hoped to manifest my passions into income. Tomorrow I have a job interview for a position with a non-profit organization I greatly admire. The job is a perfect fit! I am sending it up there that if it's the right job for me please let them pick me!

POST RECESSION CHRISTMAS?

September 21st, 2009 at 04:14 am

According to the Government of Canada we are now out of the recession. Certainly the job boards are showing many more postings for part time and full time jobs. My mother, long passed, was born in 1924 and lived through the Great Depression. She could feed a family of 6 for very little. She once told me she sent my Dad to the butcher to buy 10 cents worth of liver for dinner. It made me think that a post recession Christmas dinner would be a blast. Layered jello (red and green), peanut brittle (one pound sugar, one pound butter, and a hand full of peanuts if we could afford it). Jello with coleslaw, mac and cheese (before cheese was expensive), popcorn.

We could augment the meal with Spam, bean salad, rice pudding, canned cocktail weenies. Any other ideas that could add to the festivities? I'll update you when my extended family responds to my post recession Christmas suggestion!

CAP ONE - ALMOST GONE!

August 21st, 2009 at 07:43 pm

When I started this blog in April we had a Capital One Card with a balance of $3,164.12.
When I started in April we had a balance of $3,164.12 on our Capital One card.

Last month's balance was $671.01
Regular payment: $300.00
Extra payment: $175.00
NEW BALANCE: $198.24 WOW!

It was great to be able to turn off the autopapp at the bank. This balance will be gone very soon. I'll be sure to post when it's done. And of course we'll be snowballing these payments onto the next debt. Stay tuned and thanks for the great support and advice!

My Poor DH

July 12th, 2009 at 03:16 am

I returned med supplies for $165 and said it shoud go to the Cap 1, Groan said the DH. Another bonus of another British pounds in our change bowl that can go to the Cap 1 - another groan. But it all adds up!

An abundant day!

June 24th, 2009 at 03:41 am

Wow, what a great day! I found 31 cents, had a donation to my Cancer Society fund raiser valued at $119.00, had two people sign up for our fund raising booths, and had another $20 in perennials sold. Wow, it is truly amazing how kind people can be. I had to talk a friend out of donating something that was beyond their income. It's been a great day for both personal and fund raising income. And what's that about - who leaves money around for me to pick up?
