Creative ways for cutting costs #1

June 15th, 2009 at 03:43 pm

I'm starting a new category because I have read or discovered a few ways to save money.

Here's the first few ideas - I hope they help!

1. Forget those expensive 4 inch by 4 inch decorative tissue boxes! Buy "no name" kleenex in the 10 inch by 4 inch boxes. Open one side of the box and pull out the wad of kleenex. Bend the wad in half and put it in an empty used 4" x 4" decorator box by opening the bottom. Fold up the bottom. Pull out the first tissue and you're all set.

2. Take advantage of the new services offered by Rona and other hardware stores to return your old paint cans and batteries for free disposal. In most cases it will save a lot of gas driving to the dump for safe disposal.

3. If you are not using the Freecycle website sign up now! It's a great way to give and receive items at zero cost and keep things out of the landfill.

4. Use your library to rent DVD's. Most are free or have a nominal fee of 25 cents. And you can keep them for a week.

That's it for now. More to come.

That is a good idea for the tissue. I personally like the 4 x 4 size, but it is more expensive. Thanks for the ideas and tips.
