Can you spare me a liver?

Hello Folks. It's been a while. I'm blogging from a lounge at a hospital in the transplant unit. My very healthy sister who was out cross country skiing last Tuesday (10 days ago) is now waiting for a liver. Seems her liver has something wrong with it and it's been destroyed. So if anyone has a spare liver, type A blood, I'll buy it! After all, I do have an emergency fund thanks to everyone's support on this site :-)
But seriously, we've ruled out any likely disease (hep, aids, cancer, cirrosis) and they can't figure it out at all. Apparently this is not all that uncommon for a liver to shut down and no reason can be found. Hug your loved ones right now. And let me know about that spare liver you have hanging around.

    Oh geesh. I'm so sorry. I do hope a donor comes along soon. I can't help you. I'm O +, and I'm currently using mine.

    I'm sorry, too. I'm A- and currently using my liver. Is blood type the only consideration for matching a liver donee with a liver donor?

    Is the liver that orgin you can cut half out and it will grow all the way back so you only have to donate half?

    Yes, the liver is the only organ that can regenerate to an extent, but it takes time... however, if you can find someone with a match that could lead to a solution! I hope that it works out for your family and especially your sister. (I am O-pos, as well.) Will the insurance company or hospital help with finding a liver for a case like this?
