Jonesing for a smoke

January 13th, 2013 at 05:46 pm

I've got the patch on, nicotine lozenge parked against my gum. I've thought about lighting up at least a dozen times in the last few hours. No cigarettes in the house thank goodness. I've brought out the camera and taken a few pictures, just finished a sketch in the old sketch book. Time to try a few glasses of ice water. Last cigarette was at 7:00 pm last night. Jonesing is just such a perfect word to describe my physical and mental withdrawal. The big part is the habitual activites - eat, smoke, read, smoke, TV, smoke, phone, smoke...

Great job on not smoking! Take it an hour at a time and try using peppermints, it worked for me when I quit. Once I went about 4 days without smoking, (I used the patch too} I didn't want to mess up my quit. I also got my doc to prescribe wellbutrin which completely took away the physical craving for nicotine but I still had the psychologial aspect to deal with. That was the hardest part! Good luck, you CAN do this!

You can do this! Cravings do go away...they are powerful, just notice and feel, but don't act. You are in control.

You got this! It is totally doable. Just stay strong!

Stay strong...you can do it! Find something you like doing that you never smoked while doing and perhaps that will help take away the desire.

You can do it. What rob6251 said is a good idea. If you have never scrapbooked or cross-stitced....something to do with your hands and getting your mind off for a while is a great idea. For me my first week was the hardest. I'll be cheering you on.

Day 1 is a success! Thank you for your support. Ice water seems to work. I dusted/cleaned/steam cleaned the family room and that killed about 2.5 hours. I must have stood up to have a smoke outside 30 times today. Stats: 19 fewer cigarettes, saved $3.00 in cigarette cost, 25.5 hours without a cigarette. Still jonesing! Tomorrows activities: buy peppermints. Rob, I am sketching and that helps. Marantha, I know someone who had great success with wellbutrin but it messed me up badly and I lost a week of work and I couldn't drive but for some it works. Oh, and deep breathing helps. I am not looking forward to "tomorrows" but I am now a non-smoker.

Hang in there! That's so great that you quit. You should be really proud of yourself!

Good on your for resisting nicotine's siren call. You can get past this bad patch! Perhaps wash the floors the old fashioned way with a bucket and scrub brush...anything that keeps hands busy and mind off destructive habit.

I've heard of people having problems with Wellbutrin. Mainly anger problems. You are doing great without it anyway! Keep up the good work, you totally can do this!

You can DO this! I'm really impressed with the desire to lead yourself away from the cigarette habit. If you don't want to scrub the floors, maybe knitting? Or fly-tying? Or tiddly-winks? Smile Anything for some insurance that you can keep those hands busy... Good luck!
